last big convention-last memorial buzz
by scotoma inare others hearing this meme from speakers at their congregation?.
is it a newspeak technique for instilling a sense of urgency?.
if it is - it's more manipulative than 1975. it seems like a way of getting around over use of the word "soon", "just around the corner".. maybe after 100 years of waiting they feel they need to approach it from another angle.. i should mention that the qualifier "may" is added "this may be our last___________________ fill in the blank.. lots of wiggle room.

Man I'd hear that all the time.
"This convention really had some heavy information. Something big is going to happen soon."

420/Marijuana/Mary Jane - What Is The Society's Stance Now That It's Legal In Two States?
by Sam Whiskey insorry if it's already been discussed (i did do a search and did not see anything recent) here on the board.
now that 420 has been legalized in washington and colorado, what is the society's stance on this?
is it viewed the same as alcohol, taken in moderation?

It makes zero sense. There's two reasons why it's 'wrong' for JWs.
-Illegal. This argument of course falls apart because it's now legal in two states and it's permitted for medical use in a few more.
-DEMONS. Yes, smoking weed can open your mind to demonic influence. However, it's apparently OK to use under a doctor supervision since it's OK to use opiates when prescribed by a doctor. This makes no sense whatsoever. When I go to light up does a demon stop to check if I have my medical MJ card? Probably not. He's not going to care. So if the demon thing reallllllly was a thing, weed and all narcotics should be forbidden to JWs.
It's just another case of old white men being old white men.

The Circuit Overseer Appointing Local Elders - Connect the Dots
by skeeter1 ini thought about the change.
here's my take.. i think it's a move to protect bethel and the governing body from criminal charges for pedophilia occuring within a congegation.
criminal law usually works on specific knowledge of a situation.

prologos: yes COs are in the order.
this is absolutely a move to shiel the GB and WTBS from liability. They've been doing this for years. I was at Bethel when a lot of re-organization was going on with the HQ and other branches. A brother explained that the society is essentially playing a complicated shellgame to hide money, assets, and in this case, liability.
Funny how my time at Bethel is what really woke me up to all the bullshit.

lost: yes they picked the worst time of the year. For anyone who doesn't know, summers in this region are hot and HUMID. Outdoors in late july....ugh. heat stroke. I kinda have to go. I'm not going to put up with being hot like that though. I'll find shade or some air conditioned area.
I also can't imagine the pain in the ass it will be to keep your food from spoiling and your drinks from being piss warm. Try keeping that shit cool that long in the blisteirng heat. I will have zero problem taking a cab to a restaurant each day. Fuck that noise.

Today I attended the Special Assembly Day (SAD lol). I overheard a conversation between an elder and another elder. We'll call this guy a super elder because he's on all sorts of committees in the area. He coordinates builds, assemblies, conventions, etc. You get the idea. Anyway, he was discussing with this other elder the international conventions. Most of the congregations are going to an international convention in Landover, MD, which is basically Washington DC. This brother was involved with several video conference meetings with the convention people at HQ and explaiend why Washington DC and London were chosen. He said that (and these are his words not mine) 'the society' put a lot of effort, money, time into those two sites because they wanted to show the world on the 100th anniversary of god's kingdom, here were god's people right in the back yard of the capitals of the two biggest world powers.
I thought to myself, 'does anyone in either city give a shit?' Fedex Field fills up to max capacity all the time for football events and I'm sure the place in London is the same deal. No one at all in the government cares. Typical JW hubris.
